In 2013, Democratic insiders seriously believed that there would literally never be another Republican president. So, frustrated by Republicans' refusal to confirm Obama's court picks, Senate Democrats pulled the "nuclear option" and eliminated the judicial filibuster. (Man: What could go wrong except too much winning?) 3 years later, however, Trump won. After Democrats filibustered Trump's first pick to the Supreme Court in 2017, Republicans cited the Dems' move and got rid of the filibuster for Supreme Court nominees. Trump appointed a bunch of Federal judges and 3 Supreme Court justices. (Man: Hand down, Kavanaugh.) Now Democratic insiders believe Republicans will never take back the Senate. So Senate Democrats, frustrated by Republicans' unwillingness to break ranks by supporting Democratic legislation, want to get rid of the legislative filibuster too. (Man 3: I have a grand idea. Incredibly the Republicans aren't bringing me.) To err is to human; to screw up beyond comprehension is Democratic (Woman: 2022 is in the bag.) (Man : We'll pick up seats!)
