Alzheimer's is like death: No one has ever had it, then come back to tell us what it's like to have it. My Mom smiles when she sees me. But her speech is a hodge-podge of pabulum, paranoia, and flashbacks. And she forgets I was there. Woman: The other teachers stole all my stuff! Nice day, huh? Narrator: Buying plane tix. Tolerating the smells and sounds of the nursing home. Talking when you know it won't register. It's all a leap of faith that assumes she's still in there. Maybe I'll find out for myself someday.
