Alzheimer's patients like my Mom face thinly disguised contempt. (Man: You need to know your Mom came here in her nightclothes.) Even medical professionals are incredulous at the victims of a disease because it's symptom is mental deterioration. (Doctor: You're 142 years old? Have you ever known anyone that old?) (Woman: I don't know.) The sign of disgust never comes but it's there. You can feel it. (Woman: Your mother soiled herself again.) (Man: Christ.) She's not herself. She never will be herself again. But she knows enough to feel ashamed. (Woman: I'm sorry..) Why would she feel ashamed?
