I noticed a few years ago that My Mom's mind was slipping. And I wanted her to stay in her home as long as possible. (Man: You burned another tea kettle! Didn't you hear it whistle?!?) As part of that effort I resolved to call several times a day to check in on her and keep her rooted to reality. (Man: Bonjour, Maman!) So I spoke to her more often than ever as an adult. I felt closer to her than ever. (Man: Did you hear what Trump said?) (Woman: Ugh... don't talk to me about that Man!) And now she's in "Memory Care" and she'll never call me again nor can I call her. (Man: It's like she's dead but her body is still alive...)
