Narrator: U.S. Foreign Policy, explained. War happens when diplomacy fails. So if there's a threat of war, you double down on diplomacy, right? Not if you're the U.S. Man: Millions may die. Narrator: When the U.S. has a serious disagreement with a country (like Iran or North Korea), it cuts off diplomatic relations. Donald Trump: Talking to the U.S. is a privilege! We don't talk to anyone who annoys us. Narrator: The U.S. won't agree to talks unless it's adversary agrees in advance to U.S. demands. Man 2: Then what's the point of the talks? Man 3: Staying at nice hotels. Narrator: But even if our adversary decides to cave, it's hard for them to tell us. Man 4: What with the lack of diplomatic relations... Man 5: They don't take our calls.
