After white cops shoot black kids, whites tell pollsters they can't relate to black fears of white cops. So here's a helpful exercise to help whites get a clue. Step one: Imagine you're driving, flashing lights in your rearview mirror. How do you feel? Giddy- nice to see laws being enforced. Excited- a rare chance to meet one of America's heroic first responders. Dammit. If you answered "giddy" or "excited" consult a mental health professional. Step two: Imagine the cop writing you a ticket. Are you: Psyched? Happy to contribute to a municipal tax base? Dammit. If you answered not "dammit" you may have a chronic lying problem. Step three: Imagine you go for your wallet to show your license, and the cop shoots you. Congratulations! You've emphasized with one part of the black experience.
