Sentator Rob Portman, a G.O.P. er from Ohio who opposed gay marriage, has changed his mind. Why? Turns out his son is gay. (Man 1: As a 3-euro bill!) (Man 2: Well, then, gays are awesome!) Millions of gays who aren't portman's son had zero effect. (Man 2: I never even met those queers. I need to meet-and be closely related to- a queer in order to care about him.) The strength of the fundamental value of equality made no difference. (Man 2: Human rights are an abstraction. My gay, man-loving' son is right here!)
