Normal people communicate with words, gestures and facial expressions, editorial cartoonists rely on metaphors, even in their everyday lives. OK: Washington crossing the Delaware. George is me. The boat is a shopping cart. The ice floes are organic food prices. Living with an editorial cartoonist can be annoying. For example, their friends and relatives wear animal heads that symbolize their political affiliations. I hate you, Dad. It can also be toxic. Scientists are baffled by random clouds of cross-hatching that follow them everywhere. Run! On the plus side, labels make household objects easy to find. Sigh.
