John McCain says that, as far as he's concerned, US troops can keep occupying Iraq for "100 years." Or 1,000 years. Or 1,000,000 years! That's a long time, 1,000 years ago, Iraq didn't exist. It was just part of the Abbasid empire. We don't know if the modern nation-state will be around that long. Our troops will still be fighting under neo-feudalism! 1,000,000 years ago, Homo Erectus was just venturing out of Africa. Harnessing fire 500,000 years ago allowed us to move into caves. Odd... My fundamental nature has changed. Sarge! Yer mutatin' into a new species! Fortunately, McCain is well aware of the time scale. All we gotta do is hold out another 6,000,000,000 years. The sun'll go red giant and boil away the insurgents!
