In the good old days, American torturers earned great salaries and benefits. But that was before NAFTA. (Man: The Non-Actionable Freelance Torture Agreement is killing the U.S. torture industry!) Proponents of torture outsourcing point out that foreign torturers can do the same job cheaper than their American counterparts. (Bush: Why pay a C.I.A. agent a GS-14 salary to electrocute some Arab when Yemeni intelligence can kill him for pennies?) But critics of globalization say that U.S. torturers are losing their jobs. (Man: I sent my kids to college on the money I earned torturing afghans and Iraqis. All I can find now is this gig as a cop.) Is the trend reversible? Maybe - but only if torture quality becomes an issue. (Man 3: I've been waterboarded in GITMO and in Pakistan, and believe you me, only the Americans made me think I was going to drown.) Torture Keep it American!)
