The unbearableness of being Tim Friedman. New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman is a pragmatist. Let other pollyannas wallow in the past- he accepts new realities and deals with them! (Tom: I was against Bush's lies on Iraqi WMDs but now that we're at war, we have to stay until the occupation is a success!) He applies his let-bygones-be bygones attitude to his personal life as well. (Tom: Naturally, I wish you hadn't run off and joined the Taliban. But now that you have, I wish you all the best!) Friedman rejects resentment. "Just move on" in his credo. (Tom: Now that you've already mugged me, I hope you'll spend the loot on something worthwhile!) The Tao of Tim: live it. be it. Cash in on it. (Man: You're Fired, Tom.) (Tom: Hey, that's the past! Hire a good replacement!!)
