1781. A french naval blockade seals the defeat of cornwallis at Yorktown. America is free! (Man friggin' frogs!) Grateful Americans thank their french liberators. (Man 2: Thanks for our independence! It's, like, awesome!) (Man 1: Oui oui, de rein on to ze business. Much of your infrastructure has been destroyed by war. Naturally, french businesses will receive no-bid contracts for postwar reconstruction and my firm, lafayette timber co. is already at work! King Louis XVI has appointed this dude, Mike something or other to lead a new colonial provisional authority. Oh: and your "articles of confederation" are merde! You're not ready to rule yourselves- and your new king will not tolerate a republic!) (Man 2: (Sigh) I thought we were free...) (Man 1: You are free- to say oui!)
