This isn't what you think it is - or is it? The 21st century saw the advent of a new form of disinformation: the headline-story disjunct. How odd. The headline says that Bush would have won the Florida recount. But the article says that Gore would have won! It's Bush! This new phenomenon emerged as the result of careful analysis of focus groups. Gimme the news in quick, snappy headlines - that's what I say! The dimwit illiterate follows the official line, but the smart ones read the whole thing. I have an idea. Now everyone, regardless of politics or intelligence, gets the news want. Wow - so Bush admits we only bombed Afghanistan for his oil buddies! I prefer to believe the shorter, less cynical headline. In the works: a TV version. Tonight's top story: the enron collapse shocks America. After the break: Americans say evil CEOs are nothing new.
