In 1992, I was a poor, struggling cartoonist. A friend suggested that I apply for an NEA grant. (Man: They paid me $10,000 to paint dead trees in the bronx purple.) (Man 2: Man, I am so dumb, working three jobs- I'm getting those forms today!) (Man 3: The committee loved your slides, Ted, but cartoons aren't real art. Only paintings of cartoons are real art!)
