Tom the Dancing Bug by Ruben Bolling Dist. by Quaternary Features Writer/ Director/ Actor Brian Wass on his new film: "Everyone talks about GENERATION X like it's this lost generation. Man, they've been mass-marketed and pandered to at a younger age than any generation in history." "And the BABY BOOMERS? Forget it! They have their monolithic cultural icons -- Woodstock, The Big Chill, 'Nam..." "What about people like me? Born in the EARLY sixties. Man, WE'RE the lost generation -- between the yuppies and the slackers. I call my film "WEDGIES" because we're wedged between these two huge phenomenons." From "Wedgies" NIKE PEPSI Woman: I can't believe he broke up with me! God, I feel like Brenda Morgenstern! Woman #2: Then I'll be Rhoda...let's get the Sara Lee out of the freezer. "So many films try so hard to speak for a generation. 'Wedgies' reject that mentality. We have a post-modern outlook that recognizes and scoffs at demographic hucksterism." Radio: Everybody was kung fu fighting! Those cats were fast as lighting! Woman: Oh, I love this song! Man: Wow. I sure could go for some Pop Rocks. "You have to be REAL. You can't commodify the Wedgie's culture, because they'll see right through you." NIKE Woman: I'm going to Shop Rite. What do we need? Man: Um...some Diet Pepsi, Fig Newtons, and a six of new Ice Lite from Miller. "More of what you want, less of what you don't." Do you see yourself as a spokesman for your generation? "Frankly, I'd rather be a spokesmodel -- I'd get to meet Ed McMahon. ...see? I'm ironically disaffected."
