Tom the Dancing Bug by Ruben Bolling "The children will be taken care of - put into foster care or whatever." - John Kelly AMERICAN TALES OF IMMIGRATION With your host, WHITE HOUSE CHIEF OF STAFF JOHN KELLY John Kelly: Today's tale is of my own great-grandparents. <Translated into English> Officer: Welcome to America. Name and occupation. Giuseppe: Giuseppe Pedalino, laborer. Officer: What level of education? Giuseppe: Very little -- I come from a rural area of Italy. Officer: I'm sorry, I can't let you into America. Surely you knew we only accept doctors, engineers, and landed gentry. Giuseppe: Ah, my mistake! I must have misread the brochure! Officer: No problem, happens all the time. Back to Italy with you! Giuseppe: All for the best! Honestly, I probably wouldn't learn English for decades, and I'd just work hard at manual labor to make a better life for my child. Officer: Speaking of which, while you wait for your return to Italy, we're going to take your child. Giuseppe: NOW YOU'VE GONE TOO FAR!! TO SEPARATE A CHILD FROM HIS PARENTS IS MONSTROUS! Wife: SHRIEK! Giuseppe: Oh, wait! Unless you're going to place him in foster care! Wife: Or whatever! Officer: Well, exactly so. Giuseppe: Ah, then here you go. Farewell, little Antonio. I suppose we knew the risk. John Kelly: And this successful American immigration story is the reason I was never born, and so did not become one of the most powerful people in the U.S.A. John Kelly
