Enjoy this Classic Tom the Dancing Bug Vintage 2001 Every Thursday Panels from the annals of the Tom the Dancing Bug archive Check back every Friday for a fresh, brand new Tom the Dancing Bug! Tom the Dancing Bug by Ruben Bolling DID YOU KNOW? This week -- Baseball Many intellectuals believe baseball is a mythic landscape mirroring America's pastoral dreams and heroic ideals. WHAT JERKS. Actually, it's a game with a stick and a ball and tons of fun facts! Baseball players are SELFISH! For example, shortstop Alex Rodriguez, unlike you and your friends, cares about WHERE HE WORKS and HOW MUCH MONEY HE MAKES! Did Babe Ruth "call" his historic homer? NO! He was merely entreating the pitcher to "pull his finger." Abner Doubleday invented baseball BY ACCIDENT! He was trying to invent something that, when viewed by middle-aged men sitting in a La-Z-Boy chair holding a can of Bud Lite, would induce a pleasant nap. Does PUD REILLY (1887-1991) deserve his spot in the HALL OF FAME? No. Baseball experts say he was a drunk slob whose competition was LIMITED by RACIST DISCRIMINATION. Baseball minimizes Marck McGwire's home run achievements because he uses ANDRO STEROIDS... yet no one denigrates Dock Ellis's 1970 no-hitter--pitched while on the performance-enhancing drug LSD! Harry Stenkle, of Tacoma, Wa., believes that the outcome of baseball games matter. New York Name Origins The N.Y. Mets' name is derived from the word "metropolitan." The N.Y. Yankees' name is short for "Yankees Suck."
