Enjoy this Classic Tom the Dancing Bug Every Thursday Vintage 1997 Panels from the annals of the Tom the Dancing Bug archive Check back every Friday for a fresh, brand new Tom the Dancing Bug! Tom the Dancing Bug by Ruben Bolling Convenience Stores have found that the best (indeed, ONLY) way to keep teen-agers from loitering outside their doors is to pipe out SCHMALTZY ELEVATOR MUSIC. This music so offends the kids' aesthetic sensibilities they cannot stand to have it in their aural environment . It's surprising that this principle has not been used to manipulate other behaviors. Here is an offering of a few other ways to use this powerful tool: AESTHETIC REDIRECTION The use of tobacco and alcohol can be discouraged by requiring producers to package their products according to aesthetically unappealing guidelines. Marlboro Budweiser Highway planners can redirect traffic with eye-displeasing BILLBOARDS on heavily traveled routes. Overcrowded NATIONAL PARKS can encourage people to keep their stays brief with a requirement that visitors wear TACKY CLOTHING distributed at the entrances. Husband: What a view! Wife: Yeah...let's go! Proposals to stem illegal immigration by building a huge wall across the U.S./ MEXICO BORDER can be dismissed as needlessly expensive! We can achieve the same result by erecting evenly placed screens and showing continuous loops of "Weekend At Bernie's II". Voice: ¡Bernie esta muerte!
