Man: Why, I'm creating a flag that represents the culture and heritage of our beloved South. Man: It stands for hospitality, for cool lemonade on a warm evening, for finding that perfect fishin' hole, for fried chicken and gravy. Soldier: IT'S WAR! We must fight for our right to subjugate the inferior African race!! Quick - a colorful cloth so our troops must rally! Colonel: You! May we use that unique red and blue flag there? Man: I suppose. But it should never stand for the cause of slavery. Just Southern heritage! Colonel: Agreed, sir. 1962 Man #1: Hmm...We need some way to show our defiance against Federal attempts to allow negroes to vote and have civil rights and such. Man #2: Think, think! Man #1: Land sakes! It's too durn HOT to think! Man #2: Why don't we raise this flag that represents Southern culture and heritage: skimmin' stones, hootenannies, a grove of sweet-scented magnolia trees shrouded in Spanish moss. Man #1: That's a capital idea. Now we can stand in its shade and think about states' rights. 1970 Earl: Let's do this. I'll bring this flagpole. Man: Okay, Earl, but on your way out, don't catch it on this benign flag that inclusively represents all Southern traditions and customs. Man: Oh, Earl. Earl: Whoops.
