enjoy this vintage 1995 classic tom the dancing bug every thursday panels from the annals of the tom the dancing bug archive check back every friday for a fresh, brand new tom the dancing bug! tom the dancing bug by ruben bolling monkey business chapter 4 in which charley the australopithecine (a prehistoric ape species that evolved into humanity) is set free after his captor, a research scientist, discovers that animal rights activists sabotaged his laboratory. charley: um... doc, am i free to go?! doctor: yes, yes. my experiment is thoroughly ruined! don't those animal rights fruitcakes realize that my experiments benefit people?! charley: what are you gonna do with all this food? doctor: help yourself. ...and in order for the results to be meaningful for humans, species close to humanity must be used! charley: yeah, but the closer they are to humanity, the more inhuman it is to use them. non-human apes laugh, cry, make tools, and when taught language, use it creatively. maybe their integrity should be respected, even at a cost to humans. doctor: so apes shouldn't be used for research no matter the benefit to mankind?!! charley: well, i'd volunteer for the right project... charley: for example, i think the effect of grape soda and cable television on sexual performance is worth investigating. doctor: i don't think we can get funding for that, charley. charley: alright, then, no pay-per-view but that's going to skew the results!
