Tom the Dancing Bug by Ruben Bolling Doomed To Repeat In the early 2000s, when we launched the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, we thought we were fighting World War II. We'd been sneak-attacked, and we were invading with a huge group of allies in an epic struggle against existential evil. We would march along, defeating the enemy and taking major cities until peace treaties were signed... Man: Uh, excuse me. You're fighting the wrong war. You're really fighting the 1970s' Vietam War, an endless morass, flailing against an ideology and guerilla tactics. IRAQ Well, when the late 2000s recession hit, we thought we were fighting the 1970s recession. The enemy was looming inflation that would cripple our economy. Gasoline FOR SALE 555-1234 So, we kept our monetary policy tight, and adopted austerity measures that would combat the deficit and inflation... Man: Uh, excuse me. You're fighting the wrong war... BROTHER CAN YOU SPARE A DIME? Continued and continued...
