Stone Soup by Jan Eliot Val: I think life moves too fast, Wally. Val: Once upon a time to MAIL a proposal to client, and then have a couple of days to decompress before they responded. Val: Now I fax it or Fed-Ex it, and they can react immediately. There's no downtime. Wally: Driving to and from the office gave me time to think. Now, with pagers and cell phones, I don't have a moment's peace. Wally: Airplane trips give me a chance to read a novel or play solitaire. Now we use laptops to WORK in transit. Joan: I miss that time before computers when you could write checks knowing you had a few days to get the money in the bank before the check cleared. Wally: Um...Joan? That was actually - Val: ILLEGAL. Joan: Oh, like you never did it.
