Ripley's Believe It or Not! In 1886, William Kendall became the first person to swim across the Whirlpool Rapids at Niagara Falls, wearing a cork life preserver and swimming trunks. GOTTA GO! A "poronkusema" is a unit of measurement used by the Sami people of Finland -- it's the distance a reindeer can travel before it needs to urinate. The first police car, a 5,000-lb electric wagon, was introduced in Akron, Ohio, in 1899 with a top speed of 18 mph. It was scrapped in 1905.
