In 1870, John and Isaiah Hyatt invented and patented a plastic made of cellulose nitrate and camphor that was used to make billiard balls- except the mixture was explosive and the balls often blew up saloons! In Germany during the 1880s, Easter eggs that were dyed and inscribed with a person's name and birthdate were honored in courts of law as birth certificates! Believe It or Not! In the ancient town of Matera, Italy, the sidewalks are formed by the roofs of the houses!
