hammy: Verne, do you think you're alone in the universe? verne: Good question, hammy!....behold the drake equation...used to calculate civilizations in our galaxy... verne: ...you see, "R" is the rate of stars formed.... "F" is the fraction of those stars with planets.... verne: "ne" are planets hospitable to life... "Fl" is the fraction of those on which life can emerge....of those "F" is the planets with intelligent life..."fc" is the fraction of those planets with beings capable of interstellar communication...and "L" is the length of time such a civilization remains detectable....now, if we fill in the variables with educated guesses, we conclude... verne:...I'm very much alone in the universe.
