Bernie and Phil - Bringin' Us Back... Bernie: I think I've finally figured it out... Phil: Figured what out? Bernie: What they mean by "again" Phil: Uh...what are you talking about? Bernie: Next Saturday is the national cartoonists society's 71st annual Reuben awards. Phil: Ok...so? Bernie: So it got me to thinking how in our day, cartoonists were huge celebrities and that their comics seemed to just make life better! Phil: Ah, yes...Milton Caniff, Al Capp, Chester Gould, Harold Gray, Walt Kelly, Hal Foster, Alex Raymond... *sigh* So what's your point, Bernie? Bernie: Maybe what they mean by "Make America Great Again" is to bring the comics page back to being a forum for the glorious art and story-telling we long for to make our world a better place. Phil: Wow...it's starting to make sense. So who's nominated this year? Bernie: Um...for the 9th year in a row, the "Pearls Before Swine" guy is up for cartoonist of the year...maybe they'll finally give it to him this time. Phil: So much for your return to glory theory.
