Ordinary Basil. Basil and Louise quickly understood why the Odians assumed no one had ever escaped from the crystal cavern. But they knew for a fact one person had. "If Von Rottweil made it out alive," Basil reasoned as he studied the second gateway to the surface, "then so can we! The question is -- how do we slip past those gigantic monsters?" "We're small, Basil!" Louise whispered impatiently. "If we stay low, and luck's on our side, they won't see us!" "I hope you're right, Louise," Basil replied glumly. "I'm overdue for some good luck..." Miles away, high up in the troposphere, a court of law was convened in the great city of Helios. "Dr. Von Rottweil," the judge began, "you stand accused of high crimes against humanity. How do you plead?" Before the doctor could utter a word, the lights in the courtroom flickered. An earthquake-like shudder was rippling through the city. Because Helios was not earthbound, this meant something much worse... a power failure! Panic gripped the court
