Ordinary Basil It was snowing. Again. It always seems to be snowing now, as the magical luster of the season has long since given way to the drudgery of being shut in. This was Basil's lot, and he accepted it, just as he does everything else in his ordinary life in an extraordinary place. "Most children would give anything to live in a lighthouse, darling, Basil's mother condoled. "That's because they don't live in one," Basil muttered back. "They have no idea just how ordinary it really is here." What's wrong with ordinary?" mrs. Pepperell shot back. "If you only have extraordinary events in your life...then nothing can be special because it will all just become commonplace, leaving you with nothing to strive for in life." His mother's logic was as enlightening as it was depressing. This was Basil's moment of resolution to make the ordinary in his life the exception instead of the rule. Nothing was going to stand in the way of his quest for the extraordinary! Just as soon as it stops
