At dawn on Sunday, Dec. 7, 1941, naval aviation forces of the empire of Japan attacked the U.S. Pacific fleet at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and other military targets. This surprise attack was meant to cripple the U.S. fleet, so Japan could then attack and capture China and the PHilippines to secure raw materials needed to continue it's march toward world power. Of the ships at pearl that day, the Utah & Arizona were destroyed. 2,402 Americans died. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the following day, over radio, gave his 'infamy' speech, as he called that day-- 'a day that will live in infamy' he directed that 'all measures be taken for our defense'...and said...'Always will our whole nation remember the character of the onslaught against us. No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.' Today and tomorrow--we remember them & their generation.
