Neil: In school, we've been learning that you don't have to be a professional scientist to discover stuff! Anyone can contribute to scientific knowledge! Although, nowadays, it would sure help to have a federal grant. Benjamin Franklin used his experiments with electricity to invent the lightning rod. His fried Joseph Priestley discovered carbon dioxide and invented soda water! And Gregor Mendel played around with peas and discovered modern genetics.
