Grotius, huge:1583-1645. Dutch humanist and jurior. His concerning the law of war and peace (1625) is considered the first definitive text on intersectional law. Grotius believe that natural law prescribes rules of conduct for nations as well as for individuals. While not condeming all war, grotius argued that only certain causes justified it and he promoted the idea of more human warfare. Luann: In social studies, we're doing a unit on family history, and guess what-our family, DeGroot, has a famous ancestor named Hugo Grotius! Brad: Yeah. He mated a snail and a walrus and you were the result. Luann: Shut up, turnip nose. Brad: Or was it a pig and a sponge? Dad: What was hugo famous for, hon? Luann: well, he was a dutch humanist and jurist- Brad: What's a "jersh"? Luann: "Jurist", dummy. Like on a jury? Brad: Oh. You said "jersh" Luann: I did not. Brad: Did too. Dad: So what made him famous, Luann? Luann: Brad! I know what I said! I sad, "he was a dust jersh"....i mean...see?! "dust jersh"! Ha! What a boob! Dad: Hey! stop bickering!! What made Hugo famous? Luann: He proposed the idea of humane warfare and, stop laughing, busface!! Brad: You gonna make me? Ha ha and ha. Dad: Obviously, ol hugo's ideas weren't passed down the family line.
