PHOEBE AND HER UNICORN BY DANA SIMPSON Marigold: PHOEBE! PHOEBE! COME QUICKLY!! Phoebe: What's up? Marigold: What is this astonishing new color I see all around me? Phoebe: Everything just looks green. Marigold: "Green," you say? I am seeing it for the first time! Phoebe: I know for a fact you've seen green things before. Marigold: That is entirely possible. Unicorns are very old and have seen most everything. We are sort of jaded. So sometimes, I like to cast a forgetting spell upon myself, forget one thing, and see if once more with fresh eyes. Marigold: It is beautiful, this "green." Phoebe: It is, isn't it? So... when you went on and on about that waffle yesterday, you'd erased waffles from your memory? Marigold: Not at all. It was just a VERY good waffle.
