Caulfield: A younger, smaller upstart might not have the juice to compete with an established monolith. However: you can run from the big dog, or you can hook a leash to the big dog. By setting up shop right in the same neighborhood, you can capitalize on established traffic, maybe convert a few strays and maybe, just maybe, conquer the world. And that's why that Tully's Coffee shop is across the street from the Starbucks. Why Christmas is the same week as the Pagan Celebration of the Solstice.
