"How can gas cost one thing one day and another the next? It's the same stuff." "It's a 'commodity.'" "The cost has more to do with supply and demand than with the actual product, so the price can change like crazy." "My dad says it's a scam." "But it goes both ways. He can always watch the trends and fill up his runner rover when gas is cheaper." "Then it's his scam." "Right. In the stock market, that's called 'speculation.'" "What about when he burns five gallons driving around looking for a 2-cent savings?" "Oh. They call that 'short.'" "As in selling short?" "As in a few pinstripes short of a suit."
