Man: Bitter, bitter... Ronald Reagan: Guns, guns! Guns it is! Man 2: In sum, the Weinberger doctrine proposes that we only wage wars that make us feel good about ourselves as a people. Our basic policy would be to confine ourselves to short, winnable wars, which enjoy full popular support. We regard Greneda as a model of that policy. Person: But, general, you sought public approval of Greneda after the operation was under way. Man 2: Well, Senator, while strictly speaking that's true. We knew we had a big hit on our hands. Person: But can you think of any other country where such ideal conditions for military action might exist? Man 2: There are lots of them Senator, take Belgium. Person: Belgium? Man 2: If necessarily we could secure that country and neutralize it's Communist-backed freeze movement in three days, tops! Person: We'd certainly have the advantage of surprise. Man 2: Look, the other side invades their allies all the time. You can't just tie our hands Senator!
