Voices: Uh-oh. Snowed in again, gang. No classes. He's right. We'd never make it. No way. Zonker: Did you hear Mark's essay on the radio last night, Bernie? Bernie: No, what was it about? Zonker: Just the new cast of our political life. But it really gave me pause. It's a new, smaller, cheaper world out there, and we're all part of it. I really thought with this new gang we'd get a fresh start. But according to Mark, there's already an ugly new mood afoot, fraught with intolerance, smugness, jingoism, even racism! You know me, Bernie, I'm not usually given to nostalgia. But I already find myself yearning for the simpler, nobler times of the Carter years. Bernie: But the Carter years aren't even over yet, Zonker. Zonker: What do you mean? Bernie: Carter's still President. Zonker: Don't be absurd. Bernie: It's true. I just saw some article about him.
