Voice: Ladies and gentlemen, the President of the United States. Jimmy Carter: Please, please, don't get up. Voices: Mr. President! Mr. President! Carter: Yes, Bill... Voice: Mr. President, as much as I hate to flail away at a dead horse, it would seem that your handling of the Marston Case has left many serious questions in the mind of the American public... as you will recall, in you January 12 explanations of your handling of the case, my colleagues and I were able to catch you in four separate contradictions, or "lies" as some people prefer to call them... my question, Mr. President, is how do you reconcile that with your campaign pledge never to lie to us? Carter: Now, I never said that, Bill... Voice: Well, words to that effect, sir.
