Cathy: Guilt turns to fat. What else can explain it? I tortured myself for months about unwritten holiday thank-you notes......suddenly I woke up one morning and the thank-you notes were completely out of my mind, but my jeans were a size too small. I agonized hourly about letters I owed......suddenly one day the letter guilt had vanished from my brain, but my skirt wouldn't button. Guilt stays in the head until new guilt squeezes it out and it's forced to travel elsewhere in the body to retire. I have baby-gift guilt in my upper arms...birthday-card guilt in my calves.....my back side is a monument to the guilt of a decade of wasted potential. Some will look at their bodies this first weekend in may and see only blown diets and abandoned exercise programs......I see a beautiful human being whose sense of personal responsibility is so great that she is literally bursting with unacted-upon good intentions! Mom: YOU DIDN'T WRITE YOUR HOLIDAY THANK-YOU NOTES YET?? Cathy: Isn't that just like a mother to focate on the negative?
