Mom: What should I make for Thanksgiving? Dad: The usual. Mom: Men are too easy. If I prepare a huge, traditional Thanksgiving dinner, Cathy will launch into a six-week cycle of nostalgic over-eating and will blame me for the weight gain. If I fix a low-fat, cholesterol-free Thanksgiving dinner, Cathy will rebel against the implication that she needs to diet, will eat four times as much, and will blame me for the weight gain. If I fix a combination meal, she'll have double helpings of everything trying to figure out how I'm tricking her, and will blame me for the weight gain. If I suggest we go to a restaurant so I can absolve myself of all responsibility, she'll eat another meal when she gets home because the restaurant wasn't "homey" enough, and will blame me for the weight gain. If I leave town and am nowhere near her or her food on Thanksgiving, she'll overeat because she misses me, and will blame me for the weight gain. At least a Mother always knows her place in history is secure..
