Cathy: Wanted to write a thank you note to my friend while I was feeling the full inspiration of her kindness, but felt it should be on nicer notepaper, which I couldn't buy until the store reopened on Monday. Wanted to speak up when the person in front of me had 18 items on the 10-items-or-less express lane, but by the time I'd composed my lecture, he'd paid and left. Wanted to introduce myself to a man, but decided I'd rather life alone for the next fifty years than experience five awkward seconds. Wanted to voice a dissenting opinion, but wasn't absolutely positively sure I was prepared to perfectly counter every point of view. Wanted to tell Mom how much I missed her, but didn't want her to come rushing right over and see my filthy home. Wanted to demand satisfaction from the manager, but felt I'd have more clout if I came back and did it when my hair looked better. Wanted to buy the dress but suspected there must be something wrong with it since no one else had bought the dress. Wanted to kiss him, but didn't want to appear more interested in him than I may or may not decide I am sometime in the future. Wanted to eat cake. Ate cake. The only time I ever live in the moment is when it has to do with chocolate.
