Born in Los Angeles, on November 19 1962, Jodie Foster had starred in scores of commercials and TV shows by the time she was 10 years old, as well as providing the voice of Pugsley in an Animated version of "The Addams Family" during filming of Disney's 1972s "Napoleon and Samantha" The lion used in the move, scooped Jodie up in its jaws, leaving her with a couple of prominent scars on her abdomen. She starred in the TV version of the hit movie "Paper Moon" before tackling movies as diverse as the musical "Bugsy Malone" and "Taxi Driver" the gritty drama that earned her an Oscar nomination at the age of 14. A gifted scholar- she became fluent in French and Italian during her teens- she put her career, on hold to study at the college lycee Francais and Yale, but was thrust back into the spotlight when a deranged fan attempted to assassinate President Reagan in a bid to attract her attention. Returning to the screen, she won the best actress Oscar for her performance in 1988s "The Accused" Three years later, the hugely successful thriller "The Silence of the Lambs" earned Jodie a second Academy Award. After making her directorial debut with 1991s "Little Man Tate." She went on to star the likes of "Summersby" and "Maverick" in recent years, she earned her fourth oscar nomination for "Nell." But subsequent movies ranged from "Contact" and "Anna and The King" to "Panic Room" and "Flightplan" As the 2000s progressed, she restricted her acting roles- although her credits ranged from the whimsy of Nim's Island to the Sci-Fi actin of "Elysium" opposite Matt Damon- as she focused on directing in film and TV. This month sees the release of "The Mauritaian" a legal drama in which she plays attorney Nancy Hollander opposite Tahar Rahim, Shailene Woodley, and Benedict Cumberbatch.
