Born in Passic, New Jersey on June 19, 1978, to a father of Dominican and Haitian descent and a Puerto Rican mom with Lebanese ancestry, Zoe Saldana spent her early childhood in Jackson heights, New York. When her father was killed in a vehicle wreck around her ninth birthday, Zoe moved with her family to the Dominical Republic. By the time the family moved back to New York in her Sophomore year of high school, Zoe had trained in ballet, and she began to perform with theater groups, and her dance and acting training helped her land an agent, and after appearing in a couple of episodes of TV's "Law and Order" she made her movie debut in the 2000 teen dance drama "Center Stage." Subsequent credits ranged from the Britney Spears movie Crossroads to "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of The Black Pearl" in 2009, she made the first multiple appearances as Nyota Uhura in the "Star Trek" film series and five years later, she starred as Garoma in "Guardians of the Galaxy" a role she has reprised in three more movies. The second highest-grossing actress in history, her movies have brought in more than 511 billion to date. The two more "Avatar" movies in the significantly increase that total!
