She is the second-youngest winner of the best actress Oscar of the best actress Oscar and the highest-paid actress in the world two years in a row. Her movies have grossed more than $6 billion to date... and she doesn't turn 30 until later this month! Born Jennifer Shrader Lawrence near Louisville, Kentucky, on August 15, 1990, she began acting in school and church musicals and plays from the age of 9. When she was 14, she convinced her parents to take her to New York City to find an agent. A chance encounter with one led to her being signed. Within a few months, she had persueded her parents to let her move there, chaperoned by an older brother, to pursue the offers that were coming her way. Soon she was appearing in photoshoots and tv commercials and landing roles on such tv shows as "Monk" "Cold Case" and "Medium" She picked up awards for her work in the tv comedy series "The Bill Engvall Show" and the Charlize Theron movie "The Burning Plan" but failed an audition for the role of Bella in "Twilight" Her big breakthrough came with her starring role in 2010s gritty drama "Winter's Bone," for which she won numerous awards and earned Oscar and Golden Globe nominations. She went on to appear as Mystique in "X-Men: First Class" before the record-breaking success of 2012's "The Hunger Games" catapulte the 21-year-old to global stardom. That same year, she starred in "Silver Linings Playbook" a role that earned Jennifer the best actress Oscar and a Golden Globe. Three further movies in "The Hunger Games" series and three more "X-Men" films cemented her superstar status. "American Hustle" and "Joy" brought Golden Globe wins and Oscar nominations. Other credits include "Passengers, Mother" and "Red Sparrow," A renowned philanthropist and advocate for numerous causes, she launched the Jennifer Lawrence Foundation, which supports children's charities, in 2015.
