Bono turns 60 this weekend! The U2 frontman was born Paul David Hewson in Dublin, Ireland, on May 10, 1960. He formed the band with Guitarist Dave "The Edge" Evans, bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen Jr. when they were pupils together at mount together at mount temple comprehensive school in dublin. Through the albums "Boy" "October" "War" and "The Unforgetable Fire" compelling concert performances and heavy rotation on MTV. U2 became one of the biggest new bands in rock in the early 1980s. Then 1985's "Live Aid" concert, broadcast to more than a billion people worldwide, catapulted the band to superstar status. In 1987 "The Joshua Tree" topped album charts around the world, spawning such hits as "Where The Streets Have No Name" and "I Still haven't found what I'm looking for." U2 packed stadiums worldwide on a tour recorded for the "Rattle and Hum" album and documentary. Throughout the '90s, U2 stayed at the forefront of music innovation, with albums such as "Achtung Baby" "Zooropa" and "Pop" and the ambitious "Zoo TV" and "Popmart" tours, when 2004's "How to Dismantlate an Atomic Bomb" album debuted at No. 1 in 34 countries, U2 cemented its status as the greatest rock 'n' roll band in the world. The following year, they were inducted into the Rock and roll hall of fame. To date, U2 has released 14 studio albums, sold more than $150 million records and won 22 Grammys! Their 2009-2011U2 360 degrees Tour was the highest-attended and highest-grossing concert tour in history, and they continue to tour the world and set box-office records. The band has consistently campaigned for social justice and human rights causes, and Bono's philanthropy and activism have earned him an honorary British knighthood and numerous international awards. Bono, whose glaucoma necessitates the ever-present sunglasses, has survived a number of health scares. Including serious injuries sustained in a 2014 cycling accident and a 2016 event he later described as a Brush With Moratility.
