Born Melissa Viviane Jefferson in Detroit on April 27, 1988, she was raised in Houston, Texas, from the age of 10. Nicknamed "Lizzo" she raised in Houston, Texas, from the age of 10. Nicknamed "Lizzo" she studied classical music, focusing on flute, at the university of Houston. Following the death of her father, the 21-year old lived out of her car for a year while trying to break into the music business. She relocated to Minneapolis in 2011, and she found local success in the duo "Lizzo & The Larva Ink" and as a member of the all-female trio The Chalice. Two solo albums, 2013's "Lizzobangers" and 2015's "Big Grrrl Small World" grew her fame. She was one of the hosts of MTV's short-lived music series "Wonderland" and her music featured on TV's "Broad City" as well as the soundtrack of the 2016 movie "Barbershop The Next Cut." In early 2019, she released her third album, "Cuz I Love You." She was enjoying mainstream success... but it was a sleeper hit that launched her into the stratosphere! "Truth Hurts" a single first issued in 2017, inspired a viral meme on Tik Tok sharing app and was featured in the Netflix movie "Someone Great." It was added to the deluxe version of her album, and the single soared to the top of the pop charts, going on to earn three Grammy nominations! It was followed by another re-release, 2016's "Good As Hell" which hit the top 3 on the Billboard charts. Time Magazine 2019 entertainer of the year Lizzo voied a character in the animated movie "Ugly Dolls" and appeared inthe crime comedy "Hustlers"
