Born in Los Angeles on June 4, 1975, Angelina Jolie is the daughter of actors Jon Voight and Mercheline Bertrand. She attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre of Institute from the age of 11, and later studied film at NYU. Early in her career, she worked as a model and also appeared in a number of music videos, for such artists as Meat Loaf, Lenny Kravitz, and The Rolling Stones. She starred in the low-budget 1993, sci-fi movie "Cyborg 2" and starred opposite british actor Johnny Lee Miller in 1995's "Hackers." the couple married in 1996, although the union was short lived. Her starring role in the 1998 HBO biopic "GIA" brought her acclaim and acres of press coverage, and her superb performance the following year in "Girl, Interrupted" earned her the best supporteing actress Oscar and her third golden globe award. Other credits ranged from the dark thriller "The Bone Collector" to the sci-fi camp of "Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow" from the epic "Alexander" to the animated "Shark Tale." She twice starred as video game heroine Lara Croft. A marriage to "Pushing Tin" co-star Billy Bob Thornton ended in divorce in 2003, leaving Angelina to raise their adopted son. She adopted a second child in 2005. She became romantically involved with Brad Pitt after starring beside him in "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" they had three biological children together, including twins, and adopted another, but their five-year marriage ended in divorce in 2019. She founded further box-office success with "Wanted" "Salt" "The Changeling" which brought her an Oscar nomination and "The Tourist" and has voiced Master Tigress" in a number of "Kung Fu Panda" productions. She has also racked up producer and director credits. 2014 "Maleficent" is her highest-grossing movie to date, and she returns to the role in this months "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil" A noted advocate of conservation, education and women's rights she is the recipient of numerous humanitarian awards and is a special envoy for the United Nations high commissioner for refugees.
