Kelly Brianne Clarkson was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on April 24, 1982. Following High School, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her musical ambitions, but failed to make any significant inroads in the music business and returned to Texas. A friend suggested she try out for a new tv talent show that was launching, and Kelly became one of 10,000 hopefuls auditioning for the debut season of "American Idol" on September 4, 2002, she beat out Justin Guarini to win the first "American Idol" title and a million-dollar RCA recording contract. Within a month, her debut single "A Moment Like This" soared to the top of The Billboard Charts and was followed by her chart-topping album, "Thankful" although a movie with fellow finalist Guarini, "From Justin to Kelly" performed poorly at the box office. For her second album, 2004s "Breakaway" she introduced a stronger rock element. Propelled by hit singles such as "Since U Been Gone" and "Because of You" the album went multiplatinum worldwide and earned Kelly a slew of honors, including two Grammy awards. In 2006, she was the most-played artist on U.S. radio. The album was eventually certified platinum in 17 countries. Her third album, 2007's "My December" has only a moderate success, and a proposed arena tour was downsized to smaller venues. A subsequent change of direction saw her venture into country music, touring alongside Reba McEntire, but for her forth album, 2009's "All I Ever Wanted" she returned to her rock-pop best and saw the album's first single,"My Life Would Suck Without You." become an international chart-topping smash. In 2010, "Don't You Wanna Stay" her duet with Jason Aldean, took her to the top of the hot country charts for the first time. Her fifth studio album, 2011's "Stronger" -which spawned the No. 1 single "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You!) made Kelly the first first artist to win the best pop vocal album Grammy award twice. A greatest hits album and a Christmas album brought more success. In 2015, "Piece By Piece" became her third album to debut at No. 1 in the U.S. two years later, her "Meaning Of Life" album hit No. 2 on the Billboard Charts. To date, she has sold more than 25 million albums and 45 million singles worldwide. She has written children's book and ventured into tv with regular roles on the likes of "Duets" and "The Voice" this month sees the launch of her new NBC daytime TV talk show.
