Created by Comic Book icons Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Spider-Man debuted in a 1962 issue of "Amazing Fantasy." Within a year, the teenage Superhero was the star of his own best-selling comic book series, "The Amazing Spider-Man." He made the leap to the small screen with the 1967 animated series "Spider-Man" the first in a long line of animated versions. Nicholas Hammond- a former child actor whose credits included the movies "Lord Of The Flies" and "The Sound Of Music" starred in a live-action tv movie that spawned a short-lived television series. 1977 also saw the launch of a daily newspaper comic strip centered around Spider-Man. The following year, a live-action show featuring the character debuted on Japanese tv. Over the next two decades, the web-slinging hero spawned books, toys, memorabilia, and numerous video games. The first in a trilogy of big-budget movies starring Tobey Maguire hit screens in 2002. "Spider-Man" was a major hit, taking in more than $820 million worldwide. Two sequels added a further $167 billion to the coffers! Debuting in 2010, with music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge, "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" was the most expensive musical in Broadway History it closed in 2014. The movie franchise was given a reboot with the 2012 release of "The Amazing Spider-Man" with Andrew Garfield of "The Social Network" fame, in the title role. The film grossed more than $750 million worldwide, setting up a 2014 sequel. 2018's animated "Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse" was a huge success, ranking in $375 million worldwide and earning multiple awards, including the best-animated feature Oscar. Next month's "Spider-Man: Far From Home" sees Tom Holland continue in the role he has played in four Marvel Universe blockbusters to date.
