Amy Lee, the lead singer with GRammy- winning rockers Evanescence was born in Riverside California on December 13, 1981. Her Dad was a DJ and the family moved frequently, eventually settling in Little Rock, Arkansas. Amy took classical piano lessons for nine years and went on to enroll at Middle Tennessee State University to study music theory and composition, By the point, she was already well on the way to rock stardom. She had met guitarists Ben Moody at a youth camp when she was 13 and he was 14, and within a month they were performing in local bookstores and Coffeehouses. Choosing the name Evanescence, which means "To Fade from sight" They recruited band members, gigged extensively and issued a series of releases. Their Major label debut album "Fallen" spent 43 weeks in the US top 10 sold more than 17 million copies worldwide and spawned he smash hit single "Bring me to life" The success was tempered bu the departure of founding member MOODY, who quit during a European tour. A live album "anywhere but home" was followed by the studio album "The open door" In 2006. It topped the US charts, but inner conflicts saw the departure of three more band members and prompted lengthy hiatus. The band returned in 2011 with the chart-topping album "Evanescence" and toured extensively before taking another prolonged break it was 2017 before the group resurfaced with the album "Synthesis" Outside of evanescence, Amy has worked with such artists as Seether, Korn and David Hodges, composed movie soundtracks and contributed to albums as diverse as tributes to the muppets and Johnny Cash in 2016, In collaboration with her dad and sister, she released an album if music for kids, She married therapist Josh Hartzler in 2007 and they welcomed their first child in 2014. This spring sees Evanescence embark on a headlining US tour that includes a number of festival appearances.
