Born in Blackpool, England in 1959, Robert Smith was still in his early teens when he began playing in the band that eventually evolved into The Cure, More than Four decades later, Frontman and main songwriter Smith is the groups only constant member. The group achieved minor chart success in the U.K. - but by 1982m speculation was rife that the cure has disbanded. The rumors were partly fueled by the fact that Smith was also playing lead guitar with Siouxsie and the Banshees, SMnith took the opportunity to re-invent the cures musical direction and by the time he relinquished his role in the Banshees in 1984, The Cure had enjoyed top - 10 success in Britain and made significant inroads into the mainstream in the states, BY the end of the decade, worldwide tours were attracting audiences by the millions and the cure had become such a big draw that promoters dubbed them the Pink Floyd of the 80s. Porpelled by the single "Lovesong" a top 10 hit in the Us - the disintegration album sold over 3 million copies, The next album , 1992s "wish" hit No. 2 on the US album charts by 2-0-4, It was estimated that The cure had sold 27 million rcords! Following a lukewarm reception afforded the 2008 album "4:13 Dream" The band went on hiatus for three years since returning to the fray, the group has continued to tour the world playing festivals and headlining stadiums. Although there hasn't been an album release of new music in a decade, Smith has recently been reported in the music press as saying that there will be a new album from The Cure ibn 2019, to coincide with a world tour and the band's induction into the rock and roll hall of fame!
